UK Car Insurance for Aussie

Options
Hello; I am an Australian citizen who will be in UK in June. I have one daughter (aged 21) in Scotland at present who bought a car (for 200 pounds!) in England, only to find she needs insurance of her own. She should have checked first, but I said I would try to help rom this side of the world, which is not easy. The car is now in Berriew, Wales, and I can not find any help locally; as soon as I mention international travellers, the price goes through the roof, if they will even consider it. I would also like to use the car when we are there, but am not sure how I can get insurance to either take with me, or arrange locally for when I arrive. We all have international licences, and clear driving records (My personal no-claim rating is full and clear, as is my wife) and our insurers in Australia will provide evidence to support that. All we require is the bare minimum to be legal, as the car is worth so little. If you can suggest anywhere I can go for help, either web site, or phone contact, I would be very grateful.

I'm not sure how much luck you will have on this forum with this question, I think most of us are UK based so your question is probably not something we would have encountered.

Are there any ANZAC sites you could ask on?

My only suggestion would be perhaps to drop an email to Endsleigh (they are supposed to be quite good for young drivers)

The way we operate in UK is totally different to the Oz way. Where you can get away with having bog standard insurance bought with your rego, we all HAVE to have our own personal insurance to the car. Regardless of being a traveller or not any 21yr old wanting to insure any car(even an old banger) will still expect to pay a good £600 (maybe more). And that's only 3rd party fire and theft!
How long is your daughter here for and how long will you be here for? If your daughter is here for a year then if she really needs to drive she will have to stump up the money for a years insurance, if not it is possible to buy monthly insurance, although may work out costing more in long run.
Might be worth trying confused.com (and other comparison sites, see the insurance link above^)and see what they come up with.
