MSN messenger help - wasn't online but ppl say I was!!

Hey everyone,

just a quick problem. Ive been out all day - today. However a few of my friends messaged me as soon as I came on MSN messenger that I didnt reply to their messages and said I was online all day - even though I wasn't.

I hope I wasn't hacked so I changed my password straight away - could it be an MSN virus/worm that makes u appear online even if you're not - and how can I check to make sure?

many thanks

Doesn't MSN sigh in automatically? Perhaps you turned your computer on, it started and you left your computer but obviously not being there you didn't see the messages?

Have you tried contacting their support: https://support.msn.com/default.aspx

There's some unofficial msn support forums here: http://support-forums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25 seems to be a user to user type of forum, so perhaps they may have experienced the same thing.

Finally, could it be an incompatability between your version of msn and theirs? If you're using an older version than your friends for instance?

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Not to scare you, but quite a few people I know hav been hacked.

The 'intruders' have even sent me messages pretending to be them.

Easy way to counter this - run spyware/virus program - remove anything it picks up and THEN change your password (make sure it is different to your paypal/bank ..etc.

    Hope this helps.

It could be something as simple as your computer restarted and signed you in automatically.

Happens quite a lot - I think if your net connection drops, even briefly, you'll be logged out. Then when the connection restarts, MSN goes back to it's default state (User Online)
