Cost of Ikea Kitchen Installation.

Options
Been to Ikea too many times since last week. Bloody Sale.
Anyway was in Ashton-u-lne store earlier, getting the one kitchen unit Warringotn store don't have, and spotted the price list for their fitters. Don't know how commonly known the price are, but this is what I remember:

one off unrefundable admin charge: £250.00
Per cabinet - £50.00
Worktop - £40 per metre, £40 per mitre.
Sink £120, if within 90cm of previous site. More otherwise.
Various certification starting at £100
Removal of old kitchen £150.

there were loads of other prices, but can't recall them.

Ikea would have charge me over £1300 to install mine, well over.
Local guy is charging a lot less than this.

I'm shocked they chareg so mich. Thought the£250 fee was a rip off.

  • Brilliant - thanks for posting that. We have a kitchen voucher from the sale and are in the throws of sorting our kitchen plan out but yet to get fitting quotes. Ikea would cost us at least £2k to install. But then that's what I was suspecting it would cost... hmmmm. I wonder if their fitters are any better than a local one, given they're used to the ikea units?
  • Thanks for that Lawrie28, I was in the Warrington store last night getting a quote for a kitchen and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the £250 fee!
Ikea used to position themselves as offering quality for good prices by cutting out unnecessary expenses (they don't deliver, don't assemble and so on), and here they are charging a mistery "admin fee"!
I wasn't too disappointed as I couldn't find anything to my liking in the store though.
How local is your "local" guy?
We're in M33 and are in the market for a new kitchen, supply and fit, most likely from Howdens...

I've ranted a lot on here about the poor quality of kitchen fitters from B & Q and the fact that as a big company, if they mess it up,they aren't really bothered. I have had no experience of Ikea, but they will sub out their fitting service. As a contractor, they minute somethging is put in the hands of sub contractors, control is lost. I'm not suggesting don't do the ikea route, but I am saying beware.

bognespava is going to Howdens. Their kitchens are decent qualty although they don't fit. However, in there stores they have a range of fitters cards on display anmd it is worth picking up 3 or 4 of those and getting them to quote. Being local to the depot, they are likley to give a bettrer service as their reoutatiuon depends on it. Additionally, they often have access to other trades (plumbers, sparks etc) who will work with them. My kitchen fitter charges £200 / day. An average kitchen should take no more than 3 days. Plus a plumber/gas fitter and saparks and you should still have change from £1300.

I've just ordered my kitchen using the voucher. I got them to price up a custom worktop (was thinking if it comes ready cut to size I can just install on my own). Informally at a glance an assistant told me that the 4m worth of worktop would be £230 - when it was priced up it came to £440. Plus they wouldn't advise me on any sizes, despite the fact that I was building a kitchen from their units to the plan I gave them.

I've decided to just order everything but the worktops, and will sort those out separately and get a fitter in to install them - I'll do everything else.

Be warned - if you're buying taps you'll find most are unavailable, they've had supplier issues for the past year and many won't be in any time soon. I wound up "upgrading" as it still works out a lot cheaper than anywhere else. It is hit and miss as to whether the assistant that talks to you knows this, many will just promise that they'll be in next week. If you order a tap that isn't available, you might find your order never gets delivered...

It might be stressful with all these staff that haven't a clue, but with a £600 saving I can overlook that. :T
  • Hi i got my kitchen units in the sale at ikea and a local joiner in Manchester jcjoinery01@yahoo.co.uk fitted them ten units £500 was well impressed found him on ebay but thats his email above.;)

    Hope this helps someone:T
  • Cheers for all the info guys!
Building work is finished today, the old kitchen units will be put back in and we're hoping to have enough for the new kitchen sometime at the end of June.
We're still going with Howdens (at the moment anyway) and ideally we'd get our builders to fit it as they are absolutely brilliant, but they are also very busy so I'd like to have a backup.

I agree with Phill99 about subcontracting being a bad idea, I have only had bad experiences with it in the past and now avoid it like the plague!

  • Idiot! that thread is years old!!
  • hi, ive just bought an ikea kitchen and taken them up on there offer of half price kitchen install. I have now been stuck with a bill from there installation company of £1500 for extras.
when i asked them to explain the bill they said it was for moving the hob, cooker and a couple more power sockets. I'm just wondering what does kitchen installaion cover when we payed it at IKEA?

Also wondering whether this charge is actually legal?
