- Has the Credit crunch affected NEW credit card applications?

The credit crunch and additional credit options have made it HARDER for people to get finance(loans, mortgage etc), compared to 3-4 years ago, when almost anybody could be accepted for credit.
So it is generally harder now to be accepted for credit.
Does that mean it is harder to be accepted for a NEW credit card? compared to in the past?
In other words..., if i apply for a credit card, is there a GREATER chance of being rejected, than there was 3-4 years ago? ?
(my credit is fine, no defaults or nothing bad on it, so no credit issues on my file)..
