DIY chipmunk "aviary"

... I say "aviary" because it's closer to being that than a cage.
Friend of mine needs to house her two chipmunks. Now I'd have thought wood and wire mesh "cube" with shelters would suffice, but apparently not :rolleyes:
It's a long shot but has anyone here attempted such a thing?
Might someone on the Greenfingered board have made a chicken coop, that's similar enough? (not sure which board was best to post on, feel free to move this
)
Anything to bear in mind regarding wood rotting / waterproofing / rusting of mesh?
Thanks all :beer:

Yes, I had two many years ago! (Chip and Dale) I used the square grided mesh that is available in several thickness grades from many large garden centres. The hole size should be no more than about 12mm. Ordinary chicken wire is no good the little darlings eat their way thru it.
Depending on where you live, Country stores, Farmers stores, agrigcultural type stores should also sell it. Do NOT go for the plastic covered wire, just plain galvanised. A local pet store may also be able to suggest where to buy it from. Heres a sample type pic http://www.multimesh.net/mesh4.htm
