Help! Computer won't recognise printer driver.

I have got so much great info from this site and forum but I now have a computer/ printer problem that is driving me bonkers.

I have bought an Epson DX7450 but I can't install it. I am following the manufacturers instructions and install the drivers and other programs then connect the printer and comp. via the USB. At this point the computer should detect the printer but nothing until it times out and tells me to test various things (which I have).

If I go to device manager (I am on win xp fully updated) the printer is listed as Other devices> USB2.0 MFP (high speed) And an error code 28 Driver Not Installed
I have tried various ways of installing it with "Add Printer" and "reinstall driver". When I point Windows in the direction of the driver either from the disc or the installed one it tells me that the specified location does not contain information about my soft ware. Have also tried same with driver from website.

Any thoughts, hints, tips, advice, anything would be helpful.
