Morgan Stanley Scum

Hi Everyone, I have just got off the phone to Morgan Stanly and I am outraged and needed to get my anger out by posting my rant!

Last month I closed my account because I don't agree with paying £20 a year for the card so I decided to cancel it, up o this point I had £29.94 cashback. I asked if I would receive the cashback whilst I was closing the account and they said they would send me a cheque. So today whaen I opened up my mail I received a cheque as advised but only for the sum of £15!

I phoned them up and the lady I spoke to sounded like she had a brain of a two year old because she said I had lost the cashback because they only pay cashback in blocks of £15, I told her that it makes no sense that If I was to buy something for £6 I would receive £15 in cashback but she just kept saying I closed the account and lost the cashback.

I think this is outrages that I was not informed of this when I was closing my account I just think Morgan Stanley are complete w@n!e#s

Sorry if I've offended anyone but I am just soooooo ANGRY

Just f*ck them about in every way possible: Apply for cards, call and request info then post it back to them, etc. This usually makes me feel better.

it stated that you can only only claim multiples of 15, eg 15, 30, 45

It does indeed seem a somewhat immoderate post in relation to the offence.

If however you find such things so outrageous I would suggest you hang around these boards at bit more.

    You will find e.g.

that call centre staff often don't understand the product they support (doesn't really make them scum though.. they are mainly people like you and me)
that bank and BSoc staff in branches often don't understand the product they sell/deal with
its quite usual for retail staff of all sorts not to really understand their products

    and
its always worth reading the T&Cs of the products you buy before you buy them.

that the best highlighted products often have little stings in the tail which mean you dont often get everything you might have expected

if it seem too goods to be true it usually is

I'm sure I can come up with a lot more platitudes but I'll leave it as that.

It's been in the T&Cs for ages; I would have made sure I spent another £6 to get the full £30 before closing. You made a mistake but I doubt there is anything you can do; put it down to experience.

I can understand your frustration. They do clearly state that they repay in multiples of £15. However, I do feel that they should have mentioned that to you when you were closing the card. It won't help you to get your money but your experience may help others on here; I know I, for one, will remember it if, or when, I cancel my card.

I've been very impressed with Morgan Stanley; -

    1. When Maxjet went bust. They not only re-funded the money I paid to Maxjet, but the also paid me the extra £900 + I had to pay BA for replacement tickets.
    2. On several occasions they have 'phoned me about "odd" transaction which I made on my card to check that they were bona fide.

Hardly the actions of "scum" !

It's all relative. At the end of the day I'd be annoyed that I didn't get the remaining cashback that I'd earned but most of that annoyance would be with myself for acting too quickly and not having read the T&C's properly. If I had, I'd go and spend the amount needed to bring me over the threshold, cancel the card and get the full amount.

It IS only £15 we are speaking about here - yes, it's money 'earned' (it's not really, but we all like to think of the cashback as 'our own money' and some sort of 'right' of possession) but let's get a bit of perspective. I can understand the OP being a bit pee'd off but it's a cheap lesson in reading the small print.

I actually found MS not too bad when I held a card with them. Polite call centre staff who understood me and vice versa, and as mentioned above, who called when there was apparently suspicious activity on my account.
  • I have always found them quite helpful, they did send out information about the cashback scheme changing. Let's hope Barclaycard don't manage to mess up the cashback as there's no other reason to keep the card.

However, I don't understand why it takes them 28 days to send a cheque for the cashback. Do they print them with potatoes?
