Charges for Cancelling Cheques

Options
Can anyone help?
I am being told that the HSBC will charge me £10 to cancel a cheque that has been lost (by a company not me). Can this be right?
I have agreed to pay this once before but now I think they charge people for nothing.

Anyone know where I stand? Can they be claimed back.

Thanks

Donna

All banks charge if you cancel a cheque. It's a legitimate service.

Has the company admitted they received your cheque, but have now lost it.

If so, I would inform them that their negligence has cost you £10 and you are deducting that from the re-issued cheque

Are you issuing a new cheque.

I have heard (but have no first hand knowledge) that if you tell them the cheque was lost in the post (rather than by the company) they will waive the charge.
