Bursary advice

1st timer; Please advise if you can, my wife is about to apply for a bursary to go into full time education. My basic wage is just under £18k but have earned in excess of £30k with overtime in the last two or three years. Will she be entitled to anything?

Not having the figures to hand, I can't answer your question but I think that it's the Adult Learning Grant you're talking about for the first year. Both the National Certificate and HNC are normally part time courses but perhaps these are available as full time courses where you live. Could you let us know if that's the case as you don't get maintenance funding for part time study.
  • Thanks. The course for both the N.C and the H.N.C will be full time. In Glasgow.

as far as i know SAAS don't award bursaries to anything under HNC level nor to part time courses, i'd call someone in student finance at the college and see what they recommend as sometimes the college itself can provide financial support (though it's never more than fees + £1200/year).

ETA try the SAAS website https://www.saas.gov.uk

In England you'd be enquiring about the ALG for the HC; not sure about Scotland.
