Raja Fashions Kaffufle

Ordered a suit for a wedding in France on the coming weekend, the tailor is Raja Fashions and the order was taken on the 2nd week of March; they said up to 5 weeks till I get it. Nothing arrived yet, sent them an email few days ago to ask why there is a delay and got a reply saying my Visa debit failed. I had a check with Abbey and they can’t see anything wrong with the card and I use it everyday, asked Abbey to allow any transaction from Raja but they still fail to collect.

I got an email today saying they sending it by special carrier and should be here next Monday and if I can pay directly to their UK account when I get it.

I called Hong Kong where their based and told them to forget it as I am off to the wedding in 2 days and they are too late, explaining that they should have contact me on the day of the failed transaction (I gave them 2 email address mobile phone number and a land line number to contact me) and not wait till I take the initiative and contact them.

They said that they already sent the order by UPS and I should get it in time. (without been paid for) however if I am gong in 1.5 days how exactly are they going to deliver?

Where do I stand? I didn’t get the suit in time and I now have to rent a suit in France as I run out of time.

If I cancel an order without any funds been taken due to some error am I still liable to pay them? They said that they can’t cancel the order now and they will invoice me later.

They also say they operate under HK regulation and not the UK, but if they do business here than aren’t they liable to the UK consumer act?

I should have known better and gone to my local tailor and pay a bit more, where at list I get a smile and a quality item in time.

The way they work is to send tailors to the UK , rent a suite in a hotel and than take measurements by appointment, email all of it to HK to make the garment there where the cost base is cheaper.
Than they ship it over here.
I paid by visa debit card directly to the tailors that took the measures here in Bristol, they used an old fashion mechanical card device (like in the old days before electronic car readers where they iron the card to carbon copy ).

  • were you given an order with t&c?

if not then I can't see how they can say they operate under HK if they took your money in the country . . may be worth calling consumer direct / locals trading standards

So everytime they take an order from the UK, they fly a tailor to the Uk, book a room in a hotel, then ask you to visit the hotel to be measured up???

Not quite, they do tours around the UK, usually advertise at the back of the Telegraph etc'. You make a booking with them over the phone or on the net and than you come to a room in a hotel (with other people who booked an appointment) and they measure you. they do it in bulk in different areas of the country, see their site for details. They are reputable tailors but this is a real kokup.
