Understanding CTC

On entitledto.com it looks like I should be getting £143.71 (£82.67 WTC + £61.04 CTC) for the first year. Our baby was born on 21/01/2008 so on his first birthday CTC goes down about £10week, anyone know why that is?

Thats because you get an extra £10 a week fort the first year- once the baby is one that stops
Seems a bit silly as I find kids cost more as they get older0 -
I think the extra is to help with formula costs, clothes (4 diff izes in first year which decreases after they turn 1), baby equipment etc.0

Great, thanks. Also how often do they write to you/ or how often do you need to reapply? will it be automatic when the baby turns 1?0

Your claim will conitnue each year as long as you complete your annual renewal declaration. This will ask for you to confirm your details and income from the previous year.
If you have any changes whatsoever you should inform TCO. The only thing I would suggest is not lowering your estimated income unless you really need to.
If your income increase make sure you inform them ASAP.
It is usually best to wait until the end of the year to declare your earnings/income if you think it is going to be a little lower than it was in the previous year because it is easier for TCO to pay you if you have been underpaid.
If you underestimate you earnings/income you could be overpaid (I am sure you have heard the stories) and need to pay it back.0 -

Thanks for the good advice, I would be very grateful for your help with another related matter.
I tried self employment from 1st Feb to 5th April before and after that on JSA.
I applied for WTC soon after starting but still not got anything yet. I have been ringing up every week and got told its something to do with wife not being recognised because she is not British, but she has valid visa and NI number and everything.
Every time I ring they just say something like they sent away for a referral or something. I told the last adviser I was told the same thing long ago and Im worried I will still be being told the same thing for some time.
Is there anything I can do apart from ringing? I know you cant email them so would it do any good if I wrote and asked them to please contact me?0 -
Does she have a full National Insureance number? if it starts with an OO or TN you need to wait until you have a full NI number.
If it really has been quite some time (months not just weeks) then you should request that it is escalated via a Team Leader to get it moving.0
