Churchill - cheaper to buy a new policy than it is to renew

Similar to Direct Line, (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=86651),
quotes for new policies can be a lot cheaper than renewing an existing policy.

Last year Churchill wouldn't match their renewal quote to their online price for a new policy - so I let the policy expire and bought a new one - they said there was no reason not to do this. They sent a letter asking for proof of no claims entitlement - so I wrote back and asked them to send it to themselves!

This year they were more flexible and matched the online price - so I keep the existing policy.

Churchill, Direct Line, Privilege & UK Insurance Limited are all part of Royal Bank of Scotland, http://www.acceptdirect.co.uk/company-news3.htm, so this may apply elsewhere.
