Can I download a 'repair disc' from Microsoft website?

Good morning,
My laptop has 'something missing' - it has been prompting me for a while every now and I just turn it off and reboot then but today it is having no more and is asking me to put the disc in and press repair each time.
Great. No disc. A call to PC world determines that they are no longer sold with discs but you are prompted to 'create a repair disc' when you irst use it. Hubby tells me it didn't - but that is another stoy!!
PC world have offered to sell me the back up discs for £37.50 with delivery of up to 28 days. I do not have 28 days so can I collect from store. No, delivery only. Of course, I am welcome to go to any store and buy a new edition of windows for £180....... I put the phone down at that point!!
Does anyone know if they have the option on the Microsoft website to downlad the repair discs if you enter your key? I'd rather this all be legit to be honest and happy to pay for it but I figured if the bloke at the shop can fix it then maybe it can be any disc to fix it. So, do I just need to find someone who has Windows XP Home Edition and pop their disc in and press repair??
Any ideas??
Thank you x

It disgusts me that machines are now sold with the operating system preinstalled but they don't come with the installation media. Penny pinching in the extreme. You cannot download a repair disk from microsoft unfortunately. Are you running vista or xp and would you have a friend that has the install disk that you can borrow?0

Thank, I know that is what I said to PC World 'if you have the discs then why are they not sold with the machine'? I would rathjer have pad for them there and the to be honest.
Everyone I know is on Vista - I am on XP Home Edition, my PC is from '96. I guess I am just going to be without my C for a few days while I see if I can borrow a disc or go get it repaired!!
Thanks RB, I thought it might have been worth a shot, I'll get hubby to check that when he gets home.0 -
What is the make/model of the PC you have...0
