Just Bought Sofa - Too Late to Haggle?!

My OH and I have been searching for a sofa for our new house for what feels like years now, though it's actually been more like 3 months. We have spent endless weekends traipsing round Harveys, DFS, SCS et al and trawling the internet searching in vain for the sofa of our dreams.

So this weekend we finally found it at Sofa Workshop. It's gorgeous and we were able to customise in many different ways so it suits us perfectly. We were so excited to have finally found our dream sofa that we totally forgot to haggle!

I know, how stupid are we?! We said on many different occasions that when we finally found the sofa we wanted, we would haggle and at the very least get a couple of hundred quid knocked off, a free footstoool, whatever. But we forgot, just plain and simple forgot.

We have paid a 30% deposit and are going to pay the rest on interest free credit. It really is interest free credit by the way, no hidden costs or fees or anything.

So is it too late? Should we go back in and haggle or have we missed our chance? Please don't point out how stupid we are cos we know! :embarasse

Probably too late now, however if you opt to pay in cash, you may get a discount because the Interest Free Loan does come at a price to the company, it is hidden in the full retail price.

It may well be worth a try.;)
  • I think you're probably right there. Funnily enough they turned me down for the finance deal anyway so we may have to pay the balance on delivery anyway. Am totally mystified as to why they turned me down as my credit rating should be absolutely impeccable (home owner, same address for 5 years, never missed a payment, lots of credit cards etc) though I think it may be because we bought a bed from Lombok the day before on a similar deal and possibly getting 2 credit deals in 2 days might have triggered something. Can't think of anything else. So we have to weigh up the benefits of getting 24 months interest free with no potential for haggling against paying the remainder up front...

I could have written that post myslef as that was me and df yesterday!
For months and months we have wanted a corner sofa and can never agree..after going round dfs and many others yesterday we decided on one BUT i said we should pop next door to furniture villlage 'just incase!' df said i had always said that they are quite pricey but still it would put my mind at ease!!
so in we walked and there it was our dream sofa! df said about haggling but thought he was mad! loved it and within 10 minutes we had bought it! it comes in 5 weeks..
When we got outside df said we should have haggled still but i didn't think we could..never heard of doing so before

    this is ours:

Got it in brown with the dark feet, chuffed to bits with it now wonder wether we could have got the storage stool thrown in..has anyone done this and were you succesful?
  • lol! Just can't believe we were so stupid as to not even try. I always tell people not to pay list price for big items like cars, sofas etc but we were so pleased to find one we liked that we forgot. The shop assistants were really helpful and even stayed til 6.15pm on a Sunday to get it all sorted for us. No wonder they were so flipping helpful, they must have seen us and their big commission coming! I suppose the thing is in Sofa Workshop that you get a really good service, the sales assistants aren't pushy at all and you can have your choice of fabrics, cushion fillings, feet etc so you feel like you're getting a really good personalised service. We're both still kicking ourselves and will undoubtedly be doing so for as long as we have that sofa! D'oh!

  • I tried haggling at land of leather over the £69 delivery fee. They were not interested. We paid via credit card having said that. What was more gutting, we went back in to collect our leather care kit, about 2 weeks after receiving the sofa etc and suite had gone down £600.
