Hi tried to install my USB TV tuner (V-gear Mobi) on my new PC with Vista. Having loaded the Modi disc Vista loaded the software but failed to open & recognise the device. Worst still Vista has decided that I no longer have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D device, cannot locate a Vista driver for the Pioneer (but suspect it still won't work). My sons have un-installed the TV tuner software but have been unable to sort it out. Any ideas please?
Seriously thinking of switching to XP.

Why as soon as there is a problem people want to switch to XP???
Have you tried a system restore???
Have you looked in device manager to see if there is a conflict with your DVD???
Have you tried to uninstall the dvd in hardware manager and reboot??0 -

Why? The same fault (filters as sco0ter said) has been in XP for half a decade. Exactly the same would have happened in XP.
Try using System Restore to roll back to before you installed it and then see if there are any updated drivers from the manufacturers website.
TBH, I've not heard of that make/brand so I reckon it's definitely a driver issue which is not Vista's fault.0 -
and how would anyone explain my Vista headache. After installing office yesterday I ca not change any of the file associations. For example I had wordpad associated with .doc files and when I try to associate them with word it doesn't show open on the list of "Open With". When I browse to MSWORD in the program files (through the open with panel) and click to open it, it still doesn't show on the panel. This doesn't only apply to Ms Office but to other programs too. I spent several hours on google yesterday but just found the amount of problems with Vista and files associations absolutely mind-blowingDo I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Yes, we have tried system restores but it comes back with errors saying it can't restore.
Yes, there is a conflict in device manager, we have uninstalled the DVD but it comes back with the same issues once it has reinstalled the drivers.
We've even gone so far as to delete the cdrom.sys (and associated files) from the Windows folder without success.
We spent over 3 hours looking into this issue (and neither myself or my brother are technophobes as we both work in the IT industry)0 -

Tried that too. In fact there was no upper filter in the registry anyway!0 -

Installed Office no problem on VISTA.. If you search you can find loads of problems with XP as well.. Especially from a few years ago. As the problems do not happen to EVERYBODY then it is obviously some other factors at work and not JUST Vista thats the problem. Maybe you are doing something wrong or have a virus/spyware or incompatible software.0
