£298 charged for an account i dont even use!! I hate the banks!!!

Options
I can't believe this

Have an account with rbos

Haven't even used it in like 3 years!

Got call today out of the blue

'you are minus 298'

apparently they closed my overdraft last august but I've moved homes and didn't realize I was into overdraft by about £20

They charged me interest everyday!

Now !!!!!y collections woman said I must pay off immediately or my credit rating will be maxed and debt people will call twice a day etc etc

told he why I see she ain't in customer service and I need to 'speak to my lawyers'

I don't have any money in that bank and frankly don't give a damn

But any advice if I should pay this off if it means trouble or is it illegal, can I reclaim or ignore?

Comments

  • yeah i know i should have closed the acc

It just shocks me they contact me 6 months later after all the charges

So advice would be to pay off first? Esp since its with collections. Surely if thry already messed my credit rating it would not reverse anyway?

Anyone knows how rbos stands with reclaims?

Sorry so short but sending via mobile..
  • I didn't, for 2 reasons. I was not in the uk and I also no longer used the royal bank. I agree I fault at not closing the account. I don't get statements because it all comes online but I don't use the account and haven't done so for over 3 years. They only called me mid last week

Anyway I just want to get the collective wisdom here on whether I must pay them now first. I imagine it much harder to reclaim the money later but also aware a maxed credit rating is not a good idea..
  • im still unsure how to proceed with this. Could anyone give a 2nd opinion? Must i pay this now as i heard court hearing eith these unfair charges are out this thursday, and i fear paying them now may mean i never see this again. I don't even use this account and am not in debt and unlikely to borrow money in the near future. Would it be worthwhile to wait it out or just cut an arm and leg now hoping it will grow back later? :) thank u in advance for any advice!
