we have 2 dogs and want to let them be able to run around the front when the weathers bad so that they do not ruin the back garden & bring all the mud into the house.
We could offer to put in just a gate and let them still use the pathway, but if the dogs our out it won't be good as next door have young children & our dogs arn't too friendly with strangers.
I didn't spot this bit first time round.
If the gate/path IS shared then as a dog-fearing neighbour I'd be petrified that your dogs were there and I had to run the gauntlet each time I wanted to use it. IF it is a shared path then I think you'd have a duty of care to fence your dogs into your garden if you're letting them out the front.
Dogs just hate me and they do attack me regularly, every time I've been told by the owner "Oh, he's never done that before". So if I were to be around then your dogs would be most likely to attack me ... and anybody else with a similar unfortunate effect.
The reason they are using the 'shared path' at the moment though could be any one of:
- they're cheeky and just helped themselves
- the owner let said it was OK once
- it really IS shared and the other gate/path they have was put in by a previous owner of their house at some past point, but they don't find it good or convenient
- they are clueless and have no idea it's "yours" and as they've always used it they just do it out of habit more than malice.0 -
mmmhhh .... what about a padlock ??
not very good at visualizing so maybe it's not possible - but that would send a clear message ! And give them a note, or talk to them saying that you simply do not whish for them to use YOUR path/access, thank you, good bye.
(one you're sure it is not shared access of course!)0
