Anyone tried Tesco car insurance?

Has anyone had any experience of Tesco Car insurance in the event of having to claim or anything? My daughter is presently with Ensleigh which is in fact fortis and they are over £150 higher than the tescos quote but I just wondered how they performed when a claim is made
Thanx

Don't know about claiming with Tesco as I never had to when I had my policy with them. However, I have had to claim with Endsleigh many years ago and I would not touch them again for certain. The accident was my fault as my brakes went on me (only a minor bump) but the other party claimed for a different vehicle and loads of damage which didn't happen and Endsleigh didn't even question this! A bad experience I wouldn't want to repeat. Plus, yes from what I remember they are expensive with it.

  • You might want to read the thread I started 'can anyone give me advice on my injury claim?' I am with Tesco, they have been very good but the solicitors they pass claims on to, not so good!

"Tesco for example seem to be incredibly successful in selling motor insurance to their customers with statements proclaiming that you could save up to £150 compared to some leading insurers. Tesco of course is not an insurer. If you look closely at the bottom of the Tesco car insurance webpage, you will notice it says that the policy is provided and underwritten by a company called UK Insurance Limited. Who on earth is this company you may ask. UK Insurance Limited is part of Royal Bank of Scotland who also own Direct Line along with Churchill and Privilege."

Try getting a quote from the Churchill, Direct Line & Privilege websites ... see if they give the same prices as Tesco for identical quotes.

Churchill set the voluntary excess to £175, Tesco set it £200, although you can change it to what you want.

Wow yes I looked on that rating site and it sounds pretty bad if you have an accident no matter whos fault it is but also I rang them and double checked about a courtesy car if needed and they only provide one for 14 days. I didn't think that was very good because I think getting cars checked after accidents and decisions made if they are write offs or not then getting them repaired or replaced would take longer than that. And you would have to have the money to buy a new car if you needed it for work too as they wouldnt pay out before 2 weeks surely

Is it normal procedure that when you pay for cover to have a courtesy car in an accident that they do not provide it if the car is written off? I thought that a courtesy car was untill the car was repaired or replaced if its written off. And does a courtesy car start the day of the accident or once the car has been looked at?

  • As I said in my last post, I'm with Tesco motor insurance. When I had my accident my car was written off. They sorted me out with a courtesy car started from as soon as I wanted it for 14 days. I actually kept the car for over a month but I had to pay past the two weeks. I also paid for an upgrade because they will only pay for a tiny 1 litre car. I'm am now still in the process of claiming for injury and any expenses occurrd, including paying for the courtesy car. This was nearly a year ago and not seen any money yet.

    Thankyou Rutty

Yes I read your other post and I am really sorry to hear of your problems with them. It's pretty worrying that solicitors behave the way they do sometimes but I do think you should let tesco know about it as maybe they wont send people to them anymore.

As for the courtesy car I phoned Tesco and they told me they don't give courtesy cars to drivers if the car is a right off only if its in for repair so I don't know how you got one unless they recently changed thier rules

Are you able to say which solicitors they sent you to coz I think I'd like to avoid them if I ever have the need of a solicitor
    Thanx
