Hello Everyone
This is my first time on this forum, please could someone help me!!!!!
I am trying to cancelled my ISP since February but I have been told they cannot do it for some reason, I pay the bill every month by a direct debit on my credit card, I thought that if I cancel my credit card they could not take anymore money out, but I have been told that I cannot cancel a credit card with a direct debit on it, the ISP must cancel it first, any ideas!!!!!!!

Isn't that a Continuous Card Recurring Authority? I've heard they are difficult to cancel.
BT keep bugging me to set one up, I said I would set up a whole bill direct debit and they said, 'oh you aren't eligible for that' and I said, why would you let me set up a recurring card authority then? and they had no answer obviously, so I just go on their website and pay each quarter.Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

There is no such thing as a direct debit from a credit card, but there is something similar called a Continuous Payment Authority (CPA).
What you've been told is correct. You have given AOL authorisation (probably unknowingly) to collect these payments continually, therefore they keep taking the payment until advised otherwise. The card company cannot stop collecting the payment until you tell AOL to cancel it.

I had the same problem with AOL. In the end I cut up my card and reported it lost. The CC company sent me a new card and AOL couldn't claim payment from it. Always use DD.0

Sometimes it works ! Most credit card companies will link the newer card to the old one and still continue to pay CPA's, therefore it is vital to instruct AOL to cancel and ask them to put it in writing.0
