private tenancy agreements

can somebody advise me as to whether a a tenancy agreement can be cancelled before the tenancy date is to start. my daughter viewed a house for let through a private landlord, she decided that the house was right for her and signed the agreement for the tenancy to start 25th april, she paid the full deposit and the landlord agreed she could move into the house 21st april as the property is empty and she could'nt get time of work on the 25th. He also stated that the would post copies of the agreements to her the following day, she has not recieved them and after numerous phone calls to him he has said that he will ring her late tomorrow to hand her the keys and give her the contracts. she has since heard bad reviews about the landlord and is having cold feet. we are assumimg the tenancy is assured shorthold lease. would be grateful if anybody has experienced the same and maybe shed any light?

    Yes it would likely be an AST she has signed and agreed to for the period it was signed for (pressuming it was 6 months but some are longer)

    Info on ASTs

    To be honest, he's got no legal obligation to give her the keys earlier, so that's nice of him to do so.
    One day I might be more organised...........:confused:
    GC: £200
    Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

    she has signed a legally binding agreement and is now legally bound to pay the rent for the full term of the agreement - is it 6 or 12 months ?

    If the LL will agree to the contract being ended, and another tenant can be found in place of your daughter, then there may be the possibility of an earlier get-out.
