Dog walking?

Does anyone here know anything about walking other peoples dogs? I'm looking for something to do in the evenings to make a little bit of extra money but if I'm going to have to go to great lengths with insurance and things like that I'm wondering if it would be worth it? Does anybody know anyone who does this on a fairly casual basis or is it all companies doing it now?

I know a few people who do it independently, but they are still insured and CRB checked. I wouldn't employ a dog walker that wasn't insured. But aside from that, I'm not sure how much call there is for evening dog walking, most people who employ a dog walker need them to come in the daytime while they are at work. Have you already got some potential clients in mind?
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

I agree with pboae, I use a dog walker when I have to work late but you could try for clients who are elderly or convalesing after an op or something like that? I'd say insurance is essential and I wouldn't give my keys (or dogs) to anyone who wasn't either a friend or CRB checked

TBH, if it was someone who was doing it as a hobby kind of thing I would worry that they would let me down( no offence to you!) and my poor dogs wouldn't get walked/fed and there would be nothing I could do about because I'm 40 miles away. At least with a firm I know they have "spare" people if someones sick for example. Also, I can think of easier ways of earning a few quid;) you don't know if you'd be told the truth about the dogs behavior and training.....for some reason people are really bad at telling you the truth about their animals:eek:

Sorry I can't be more encouraging
