Sky deals for new and existing customers discussion.

I see Sky is doing a deal now where you get Sky TV with either Sky Sports or Sky Movies, broadband and free evening and weekend calls for £26 a month.
When I signed up a year ago I got 33% off with a basic package and 2 mix paying about £22.50 a month but I've since change by adding Sports, Movies and 4 mix so lost the 33% off and now pay £43 a month (infact £53 because I have Sky HD) with no broadband or phone. I knew I would lose the 33% off if I added to my package so I have no complaints about that but I would like peoples input regarding existing customers getting maybe money off for being with Sky for a while (i.e. longer than a year at least) or free upgrades on kit or packages rather than customers having to threaten to leave to try and get a better deal.
It's a poor deal for existing customers in my book and if you can't get cable in your area like I can't then there's not an option but to be with Sky.

There is a NON-SKY option.
I got rid of SKY in January, and missed it at first
Then realised some strange things happened- Spent more time with wife and kids (as we all were watching less telly)
- saved around £300 per year (half a months mortgage)
- started using PC tv tuner and it records things like sky+ but easier and with less hassle. I can even burn stuff to a DVD- you can't with SKY+
- Kids got more exercise and went to bed earlier (and have improved at school)
- Non existent customer service (abrupt and rude at times)
- Calls routed to India (and therefore lasting longer with a higher failure rate)
- SKY forcing you to use a 087.. number (by actively blocking numbers listed on saynoto0870.com )
- Costs ramping up and no deals / offers available
- and the fact they seem to take the god given right to call you when you have specifically opted out of marketing
baldly going on...0 -
If Sky are still calling you when you opt out of marketing, aren't they breaking the Data Protection Act? I'd call the the Information Commissioner's Office and ask for advice (or look at their website).0
