not very techie but ideas please re aerial in stereo/cd player ??

hi i have just picked up a lovely stereo with a 3 cd thingy , 2 cassettes and a radio

i didn't pay anything for it as a kind lady let me have it through freecycle , but it doesn't have an aerial at all.

it's the kind that is just a wire as far as i can tell , but i am hopeless with this sort of thing and don't know what i am doing.

basically can anyone tell me what i need to put in for an aerial and where do i need to put it ??

any advice greatly appreciated.

usually they're just a single copper wire coated in plastic - I've used any spare electrical wire in the past to get a better signal. Just get it long and vertical, avoiding any nearby electrical devices (TV, DVD player, mains sockets, etc.)

If it's just an audio device you have, then the tv aerial socket you describe is actually for an external fm aerial. This could either be on the roof, in your loft or anything with the right plug on it. It could be a wire. Do you know if you already have an external fm aerial? If not is there any other terminal on the back which may be labelled 'rf in' or aerial, that looks like the wire would fit?

You say there is a wire. What connection does it have?

This one from Maplin is very basic but would do the trick if you are in an area with a reasonable fm reception.

Otherwise there's this with a coax plug (it's what you describe - same as a tv aerial socket)
