I think they should be renamed Sales Prevention staff.
M&S yesterday. Found a lovely pair of shoes marked down from £30 to £19 to £12 to £9 and final sticker to £3. At the till conversation with asssistant:
!!!!!!: They are full price £30
Me: Well they have been marked down 4 times on both shoes and have a red mark on them
!!!!!!: I'll check computer. yes computer says £30
Me: Well I am not very happy about that I will ring the manager to complain
!!!!!!: Well I will sell them to you for £3 but will probably get a smack in the face for losing the shop £27.
I had the shoes!! Rang manager when I got home and relayed conversation. When I gave her name there was no comment like " Oh I am surprised"
Then onto Debenhams. 1 assistant on tills, 2 standing on shop floor. As the customer in front of me had about a 100 items and wanted to price check everyone before buying I asked one of the shop floor ladies to tell me the price of two items I had picked up from their clearance rail. Off she went to till to check and came back and told me there was an extra 20% off. 20% of what I asked. Well whatever they are reduced to she said. What are they reduced to? I asked. "I don't know I will have to go back to the till to check"! Too long, too fed up with such poor staff I told her to forget it.

Letter to CEO and cc branch manager stating names and full descrition. Quote any M+S card number you have.
Ask for their comments. Should get you some pts on your card or vouchers.
Keep it short and to the point. You could even hand the letter to the duty manager next time you are in the store to save the 19p stamp

god you sound like you had a dreadful day, hope you managed to pick up some bargains or at least put your feet up with some choccies and a glass of wine after all that ;D Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

If she hadn't sold me my lovely shoes for £3 I was going to smack her :P
I didn't manage to get a glass of wine till quite late as it was halloween and I went for a ride on the ghost train.
Debenhams probably did me a favour and saved me money. After a 1/2 term trip which included a £50 fine for going into London's congestion zone I really didn't need to be spending.
Things better today - just had a cheque for £58 for filling in online surveys - that'll pay my fine.

Been to Matalan today. Pack of 4 girls t-shirts reduced from £6 to £3. There was 1 top missing. I went to customer services and asked how much they'd reduce them by. The girl said they'd reduce them accordingly. I said 'so, that'd make them £2.25?' She said she'd have to check with supervisor. It took them couple of minutes to find a calculator & then another supervisor came along. It took 3 of them to work out how to deduct 25% from £3 on a calculator 'cos they weren't too sure how to work it out.
After a few minutes of discussions & very round the houses working out they decided that 'yes, they'll be £2.25 if you want them!'
