Card expiry date

when does a card expire? begining of named month or end? why do web sites refuse to take one with named expiry date during final month?

I believe it is the end of the month specified. I imagine you have problems with the web sites either because

1) An error on the the site - they do a "less than" test on the date when it should be "less than or equal to"

or

2) They know that you should always have a replacement card by the time the final month arrives and they would rather you used that so future purchases are easier.

But I'm just guessing.

My bank, Lloyds TSB, don't send new debit cards until the week before the card expires (so one week before the end of the month).

I actually rang them because I thought they should send them a month before, but they don't. Some banks may though.

Websites will take a valid card providing you've entered the correct details - I don't quite understand why you say they don't. Just what would the point be of us having cards that don't work during the final month of validity?

My Dad tried to purchase some ferry tickets on his credit card via the Brittany Ferries website and they would not accept the credit card as the expiry was before the date of travel, even though they took the money before the card expired. He had to use the newly arrived replacement.

Maybe some websites don't accept cards which expire before delivery of the item?

my mate tried to order some vits from healthspan with the card due to expire this month, they would not accept it on screen it just stated card had expired.
i tried it for her and no it would not accept it just kept saying card had expired, we emailed the company and she has now received an email saying how sorry company were no one else had complained before???and telling her to reorder but its too late she went to zipvits a site i saw on here and hey presto they did her a favour as she saved some dosh theirs were cheaper.
