    Hi
Yes they do sell them at Maplin, but they're not cheap.
I priced them when I needed one, but got exactly the same thing new from ebay for £5.
    Here's the Maplin link, £24.99 :-http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=32106&criteria=raid&doy=20m4

I was going to get an Adaptec 1420SA on Monday, but looks like Maplin have something matching my requirements (four channels, RAID1, JBOD):

Any ideas what manufacturer this card is?

    I'm in Surrey.

Just realised the Maplin one is no use - I need SATA.

They do have a SATA card, but I need to connect four drives and their card only takes two.

oh well, current RAID card has booted up now, I think it's on its last legs though, so have ordered new card (occasional clicking noises and freezing, hard drive failures on hard drives that have alredy been replaced, etc.), which will arrive Tuesday.
  • Hi, I'm in Surrey too, Well I hope the Raid card is identical, I 'think' they are critical to the disc array they build, ie it my not see the drives and reformat so be careful and read up on the instructions.

well I got my RAID card (today!).

Accidentally ordered the wrong one, went for pci-x rather than pci-express. This means I am limited to 133mb/sec. I don't think this is actually a problem though.

More notably, however, it turns out the problem was just a faulty SATA cable. The new raid card won't boot with the dodgy one - better error checking I guess. I have thrown it in the bin, and everything works fine (of course I only have 3 of my 4 hard drives). This explains my mysterious repeated hard drive failures.

So I guess I should send the card back.
