Hi,
Has anybody heard of this?
I keep getting it popping up saying I have numerous infections which need to be removed but the only way to get rid of them is to buy the program at $40.
I obviously want my PC protected but don't want to shell out on unnecessary programs if there are other better ones available/free.
I'm on Windows XP and have Mcafee installed. I've tried reading the other posts/sticky' but I find it all very confusing.
Thanks for your help
Christine

spybot search and destroy should solve this but if you don't have any antivirus you should get one asap - if you're willing to pay then have a look at NOD320

AVG is one of the better free antivirus products & the one I run http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=aff
It can slow things down when it's doing a scan, but you can easily disable it and do at a later time. You will probably have to uninstall Mcafee first as it may not run properly if you don't.0 -
Just in case the above doesn't work then a quick Google brings up various removal instructions such as this one, just ignore the instruction about Panda anti virus and use something like AVG instead
I'd recommend reading some of the other instructions you'll find through Google just so you understand the process totally - though this does seem to be one of the simpler to remove0 -
Its unfortunate that you have McAfee - one of the worst products IMO. As mentioned above, Eset NOD32 is a much better Antivirus solution.
I think your problems are spyware related though in this case....Nice to save.0 -
The "40 dollar" variations can be a nightmare to shift
Try googling "spyaxe" or the specific name of the offending program.
I find i usually have to download a bespoke program like smitrem to shift them.0 -
