So far so far quietness tonight!:T
Try the ear protectors. They don't shut out all noise but they do take the edge off the really nasty stuff! When DD wears them at school it blocks out the noise of the other children in her class screaming and crying, but she can still hear the teacher sitting beside her giving her instructions.
The other alternative is to wear headphones playing music of your own choice, which she does sometimes too.0 -

Yeah headphones can be good but a bit uncomfortable to sleep in - and I'm paranoid that I'll strangle myself
I just can't believe the walls are so thin as I always hear them! They have quietened down a bit (think the kids have gone back to school) but I am dreading the summer holidays
I don't understand how you could let your young children be awake till 1.30am even on a school hols!0 -
I feel bad for my neighbours as we have a 3 and a 5 year old who tbh make noise. It doesnt help that our stairs are next to next doors living room (kids come down like a herd of elephants) and that our youngests bedroom is next to their main bedroom (he often wakes up crying in the night or cries if he gets sent to his room - oh and he seems to like rearranging his bedroom, dragging the furniture everywhere at about 5am in the morning which makes a right racket - then I of course, shout at him to stop it!)
Thing is, no matter how many times I tell them, at that age, the will make noise - kids do -and even if my neighbour asked me I couldn't physically stop them anymore than I do. I do feel bad for it thou.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

It concerns me that a parent is screaming so frequently and so loudly at kids, especially during the night.
Aside from dealing with the effect of the noise on yourself I would seek advice from a professional agency regarding the possible risk the children could be in. Is there a mother in the household or just the dad?
There could be a much bigger picture to all this and although all you are after is peace and quiet do you really want to ignore it if the children could be in need of outside support? I'm sorry to even bring this angle in to it as I expect this is not what you were looking to hear.
I can't imagine how awful this for you and I truly hope that it is nothing more than a matter of the family being unaware their way of communicating is causing you so much stress which is resolvable.Domestic Violence and Abuse 24hr freephone helpline for FEMALE TARGETS - 0808 2000 247.

If you do, make sure you complain to the Environmental Health Dept about your landlord too. Blocked drains and plumbing that doesn't work is a serious health issue!
You sound a bit too easy-going to me. You don't have to be confrontational to raise genuine complaints. Be polite but firm with both your neighbours and your landlord, raise your issues and tell them you've had enough and the issues need to be resolved now otherwise you'll report them to the Council.
Perhaps your neighbours don't realise how noisy they are?
Some people don't respond to politeness though and you have to resort to lowering yourself to their level. My mom has Sri Lankans in the flat below her who also scream at the time of their voices and don't respond to polite requests to tone it down. If I'm there and I hear it I'm quite happy to scream and shriek "Shut up" until they do. It's really good for relieving stress
I have been quite firm with the landlord, but the thing is we aren't allowed to speak to him - we have to deal with the agent. I've written letters and emails, phone calls etc! But they know they can get away with it as they are letting to students. They just will find ways of screwing us over ie by not giving our deposits back. When I moved in I didn't really notice any problems that my housemates had made but now I do ie the freezer draws all broken etc. So I don't have much of a leg to stand on as I knew what I was moving in to and didn't make a note of things. I think I am the most complainer out of all the properties they have most likely. So many of my friends are with the same landlord and none of them EVER complain. One of my friends had cockroaches and the other, mice! Yum!
I did manage to unblock the shower last night with a fork and some bleach
So far quietness for the last few days but have taken on board all comments and def will act on them.0 -
You can always phone 101 and ask each incident to be recorded (I would also keep a diary)That's Numberwang!0

Not heard of 101? It was pretty bad Sunday morning, I think I might speak to the safer neighbourhood team as recommended by my PCSO housemate. The worse thing about it is waking up to screaming, it puts me on such a downer for the whole day.0 -
have you spoken to them yet?
if you don't tell them the issues how can you expect them to do anything about it? if once told they carry on then call in the agencies who maybe able to help0
