any electricians about??

I have a halogen light in my kitchen that I hate. It has four lights on it and really really buzzes when it's on.
However this morning I turned it on and nothing. The bulbs aren't burned out I only changed one last week, it's just doing nothing.

could there be something wrong with the transformer? Has the buzzing been a precursor to a problem?

How easy is it to take down a fitting like this? I can't see how it fixes to the ceiling. I've never liked it I might use the spare light fitting that came from my old flat if I know how to get this down.

  • sounds link you had 12 V lamps (probably 20 or 35 watts each)

You may have bought a 50W lamp and overloaded the transformer.

The older transformers have glass 20mm fuses inside the fitting, the newer ones don't and the complete unit has to be replaced

Try removing a couple of the lamps and leaving only one

Oh thanks for that yes the lamps were 50 watt I didn't realise they were different I just thought as long as the end fitted in the light they would be ok. D'Oh!!
I think I'll just take down the whole light fitting and replace it for a "normal" spotlight, not a halogen.
