I have read through all the messages on the Student account thread and found only 2 old messages to do with this subject and no replies ! I understand the banks are mostly be interested in the uni mobs long term debt, but what about the 16 to 18 year olds ? If like my son they have bulging Post Office books from all the Birthdays and pocket money they have forgot to spend and are having to get a bank account they can stuff with even more money from Blair's EMA (wish they had paid me to go to college  ) why are there no good deals for this student group ? If there are I have not found them yet ,here or on other web sites I have tried, mind you have only read the pure money posts so far  I will have to look harder or hope this new tread sparks the fload of replies it deserves :rotfl: ,well you know what I mean. Got to go now terrible piles, backache, rsi etc etc, etc.. moan don't get me started..

No bank will give you an overdraft aged under 18 (interest free or not.)
HSBC have an account for 16-17 yr olds called "Right Track" which offers money off driving lessons and discounts on a range of other activities such as 2 for 1 tickets at VUE Cinemas. http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/current-accounts/under-18/right-track
Most banks will offer a current account from age 16, none offer any particularly exciting incentives though. As you say it's the university student market they're after.

Oh a free 50 quid for doing nothing + a 1k overdraft should I require it sounds nice...
For the moment my 1.5k 0% Abbey account I've had for the last year should do me well0 -
If you ask nicely at an Abbey branch we'll give you one of the stuffed toys we giva away with Flexi Saver for Kids accountsTeamMCS wrote:For the moment my 1.5k 0% Abbey account I've had for the last year should do me well

Thanks for the posts so far, after trudging up and down the local Highstreet have found very little to choose between the 16+ accounts on offer. As Jim rightly points out no bank will allow an under 18 to have an overdraft, thank god ! So I think TeamMCS is on the wrong thread. Thanks for the toy offer Fatboy but I think he would rather have the £50 now without the overdraft, besides he walked in last night with 3 huge lifelike animals from the funfair plus £10 from their rifle range ,considering he only went with £5 they must wish they packed up early

Anyhow stuffed toy or not has now got an account with Abbey as wife uses them did not need a gas bill in his name? just the passport to open. Chose as close to free car park and wife can deal with it if he has any problems
, so the EMA is now in the post and the kids continue to get richer by the day. 0
