Hi Guys,
Having purchased the phone and unlocking etc using Zipphone I have overcome a number of issues but not this one.
Everything works finr using my WiFi connection, but when I am using the phone`s GPRS connection, I can surf, receive emails but NOT send.
Is this normal?
I get the `You are not subscribed to EDGE message`.
I have changed the APN settings numerous times, currently using
internet
web
web
Most of my email addresses are with NTL, not sure if this matters.
The only thing I didn`t do was upgrade to the latest firmware, mine is 1.1.2, was this a mistake?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

When you send via GPRS you are using the smtp server belonging to Vodafone, not to NTL. And nowadays most smtp servers only allow outgoing email for their OWN email addresses. You would probably encounter this identical issue if you took your laptop tp McDonalds, connected to WiFi and tried to send mail.
With the Lappy you could fix this by getting a Gmail email acct and setting it up to act as smtp server for your Outlook client see http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76147
But with an iPhone email client...? At this point I wonder if some other well informed techie could make a suggestion!
However a workaround might be to set up Gmail as your in and out pop/smtp server and use the Gmail web mail (IMAP) interface to browse your NTL email and send emails too as Gmail is happy to masquerade as your NTL account for sending.0 -
Hi Steve
As buglawton says, when sending an email via the Vodafone network you'll just need to ensure that the outgoing mail server is either smtp.vodafone.net or send.vodafone.net.
If you need any further help with this you might want to visit Vodafone's eForum.

You will only be able to send email from an address like me@vodaphone.com (ie the Vodaphone approved email domain/s) via Voda's smtp server. Gmail by contrast will allow sending on behalf of multiple email domain names.0
