I was going to post OP about 4 weeks ago,but decided not to as I knew it would be deleted or moved (AND ridiculed of course..which does not bother me)
When I read the article on BP Scottish refinery...I thought..it's starting...
There have already been recent instances of two refineries shutting down, in USA I think, for what is believed to be crude shortages. The excuse given was unplanned maintenance.
China have been taking increased amounts of crude oil and refined oil to stock up for the Olympics, and there is a global shortage of oil that will get progressively worse.
I find it hard to believe BP would shut down a refinery for one month over a pension dispute.Surely the loss in revenue would be massive. They are printing money at the moment. If they can't afford a pension scheme ...who can ?
My suspicious mind tells me that they are taking this opportunity to blame a pension dispute (and maybe also get a cheap pension deal done) in order to resolve a potential near term shortage in crude supplies.Shut the refinery down and let stocks recover.0 -

It won't affect Northern England or Scotland either. They'll just send the tankers to the other refineries in the UK. OTOH, there's going to be a few well paid short term Hazchem tanker driver jobs available.0

No petrol? I have to fill up every 2 days
Ah it only effects those in the North, ha it's grim up there
But as Conor said, they'll take on agency staff to supply the fuel from around the UK0 -
