Help photo printing

Hi,
I took a CD of fotos to be printed but the kiosk gave me only the option to print 6x4 sizes. When i queried the assistant he said it was because when I copied to the PC and then to the CD some sort of compression took place.
Could someone please help me out?
Thanks

Sounds like he didn't explain it very well.

The act of copying files and burning them to CD should not have caused any compression.

However, most cameras these days do the compression themselves to save on storage space, and you can generally change the camera settings to determine how much they compress each photo. Obviously the more compression, the poorer quality image will result.

Have a look at your camera settings and see if you can select a higher image quality, though you need to be aware that each photo will then take up more space.

Some cameras also have the option to turn off compression altogether - often described as RAW format. The resulting files can be very large, but will result in the best image quality (higher quality than the "average" user would typically need).
