Hotmail Chain e-mail

Options
My Daughter received a chain letter from a friend on her contacts list. The names on the adressees are all their common friends. I don't think her friend sent it does not appear to be an e-mail that has been forwarded.
I am worried that other friends on my daughters contacts list are getting similar e-mails from my daughter.

What do they call this?

How can i ensure it is not happening to my daughter?

Can I recommend something to my daughters friends parents
Is it possible for her to have MSN but no hotmail?

Why unsure? Just ask the friend to confirm whether they sent it.

It's called spam, whether the friend sent it or not as far as I'm concerned. Although if they didn't send it it could be their PC is infected.

Got through the malware removal guide on this board to ensure your system is clean.

What do you mean by your daughter's friends comments? If they're deliberately sending chain mail then I'd tell them to simply stop wasting bandwidth and time. :D

Yes it's possible to have MSN without hotmail. I sometimes use MSN and I've never had a hotmail address. My email address that's my sign in and registered as my "Microsoft Passport" is name@myname.co.uk. Ages ago since I registered but you'll probably have to re register and set up a new account. Unless there's an option to chance/update email address.

I will ask her parents I just mean that when you look at the e-mail it does not look like it has been forwarded. it looks like it is their original e-mail but it is clearly not. Its a murder threat from Mickey Mouse and has been discussed on other sites.
  • Most chain emails are designed so that "spammers" can aquire email addresses which they know are active and working.

So by forwarding any kind of chain letter on you are opening yourself up to more spam, and not the kind that's fun.

I spoke to the parent and little girl. The little girl did forward it on. We have since received this Micky Mouse two more times today so its going the rounds.
