Ethel Austin Half Price Sale

I was passing my local Ethel Austin store today and noticed they were having a half price sale on clothes. Ideal for kids vests and school clothes.

Just looked online to see where the nearest store is to me and it says they are in administration: http://www.ethelaustin.co.uk/eawebsite.nsf/0/B46EC30BE8F18197802573DF00580494?OpenDocument

If you shop there normally, they need your support at this time. See below:

North Wales Ethel Austin stores escape axe

Apr 17 2008 By Carl Butler
ALL 14 Ethel Austin stores in North Wales have escaped the axe.
Hundreds of jobs have been cut at the discount clothing chain which has gone into administration.
But a full list of shops due for closure reveals that its 14 stores in North Wales are not on the hit list.
The Merseyside-based retailer has stores in Abergele, Bangor, Buckley, Caernarfon, Colwyn Bay, Flint, Llandudno, Mold, Prestatyn, Pwllheli, Rhyl, Ruthin, Shotton and Wrexham.
The company is closing 33 stores and making 240 full and part-time staff redundant along with 181 at its head office and distribution centre in Knowsley, Merseyside.
The closures include its stores at Frodsham, Cheshire, and Woolton, Liverpool.
Administrators Menzies Corporate Restructuring were brought in earlier this week and hopes to find a buyer for the firm, which was sold by the Austin family in 2002 for £55m. The firm’s latest annual turn over figure is £150m.
USDAW (Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers), national officer, John Gorle (corr) said: "We are now seeking urgent talks with the administrators to work out the best way to support and assist our membership in this difficult situation."
"We’ve been aware for sometime of the financial difficulties of the business. However, we had been hopeful that refinancing of debts would stave off administration, so this news is a tragedy for all involved and employed by the business."

I hope they survive this as they have been around a long time and are a local company.

I don't shop there personally but I am sure I can find something to buy to support them.

If you have a branch near you, spread the word as it could be a friend or family member whose job is at risk.

Dont have this shop anywhere near me, but went in a store in Middlesbrough years ago and bought a pair of great jeans for £4 which are my fave pair and are still going strong to this day!! It's a shame, I always hoped they would expand!

I've just been to the Redcar store. It seems very good quality (for the price). I got two cotton blouses and two pairs of cotton trousers for £20. The size range is from 8 to 22, plus kids clothes and a small section of menswear.

Have a look at their website http://www.ethelaustin.co.uk/eawebsite.nsf/0/B46EC30BE8F18197802573DF00580494?OpenDocument
Don't you find it a bit inconsiderate to the existing employees, when having a 'Gone in to administration' notice, and above you have the Careers banner with the wording "Looking for a brighter future....."?

Not a great sign that the company was well run......
