How long for tax credits to come through?

Hiya

I have started a new claim as a lone parent this week, and put in my claim on Thursday. Any idea when I am likely to receive a payment? I have no money and won't get any other benefits until I have met the LP adviser and put in my claim for IS. I'm getting by by the skin of teeth!

thanks
abi

A few years ago I applied online and I got money within 3 weeks, so I would say 3 - 4 weeks for a postal application, you dont need to see a LP to put in a claim for IS, just go down there and ask them for a form or ring them up, even getting IS can take a few weeks :)
