Anyone know of any good property selling websites? Preferably ones that don’t have a fee but doesn't matter if not. And can you please tell me how these are regulated and by who?
Thank you

Hi, we have our house advertised with a company called thelittlehousecompany.co.uk (Property id 10229 if you want to see what we have done). So far all seems great. There was a guy on who was looking at 3up2down or something similar. From what I can gather they are estate agents where as the one we are advertising with are a selling site. Not sure who regulates them, but I do know that all the text was checked before it went 'live' and they do appear on sites like fish4. Not on rightmove, you have to have an estate agent for that.
We also advertise in our local paper - around £25 p/w and on a free site which is just for houses in Cumbria - justcumbria.co.uk.
Best of luck,

Thanks Sugar, I'm actually making an enquiry for a friend, will pass this info on tonight.
In fact she’s already put her details on a website already a couple of days ago. I said I’d make some enquiries if she wanted, to which she agreed.
One of the things she didn’t quite realise was how they are regulated; I had to point this out to her as she wasn’t aware of some of the risks of putting your property on the marked such as time wasters and how estate agents are suppose to vet prospective purchases.
Any way you’ve been a great help.
Thank you very much0 -
I managed to find these last night:
House selling sites that charge:
Privatehousemove.co.uk, Houseweb, Search4Homes
&
Free house selling sites (but no pictures allowed):
Housenet, Home.co.uk, Easier.com
Thanks again0 -
Thank you, I will be looking at the free sites, I figure that the more places we can be seen the better. I don't want to pay more than is necessary so we are always keen for a freebie!
We decided to run the risk of timewasters etc as I don't really think the ea's can do too much to find out the real buyers from the timewasters. They are parr for the course I feel. Doesn't make it any easier though! I have been following the 'how do you stop timewasters' thread and have been fascinated by how rude people feel they can be! There are a few tips on there though. We have now written a sort of list of questions/things to cover on the 'phone - all the things an ea asks when you want to view a property - to avoid any simple errors. This may be a useful thing for your friend to do if they are taking the calls.
I hope your friend sells soon, it is a mare all this house stuff.

At the very best they will do a simple credit-card-based check but none have the facilities for a proper modern ID verification. If you want to see how it can go seriously pear-shaped with this sort of 'vetting' checkout this story. This page has info on how she got hold of false documents.
And that was after a 'full pre-let vetting' on behalf of their client.
OP. If you want a list of Internet Property Advertisers, checkout the members page of the Association of Property Advertisers here or the Private non-agent For Sale By Owner portal here.0 -
The judge was a bit lenient and maybe a bit to much. Don’t you think? While she would have faced jail in normal circumstances, he said the benefits for her and losses suffered by others were "nothing like as great as they might have been".
What? The furniture she sold off may probably never be replaced, let alone the identity theft. Plus they are heirlooms. In the eyes of the victim these are most probably priceless.
Anyway that aside, I’ll be seeing my friend tonight and will ask her if she’d like me to send her the lists of Internet Property Advertisers.
Thanks jimc0 -
I just couldn't believe that judgement! And the letting agents got off with a "Sorry. That's all we ever do"
Funny story though - glad you liked it!0
