DVD+ can be multi layer where as DVD- can't.

Most players / recorders can use both but if your in any doubt check your manual for compatibility before buying.

Neither format is better than the other for standard use so just buy whatever you can see at a decent price.

    That's not true.

Where did you get info that from? You can certainly buy Dual Layer DVD-R.

Generally DVD+ is more reliable because of the newer embedded technologies but DVD- has more wideranging compatibility because it's been around much longer. But nowadays to the end user there's little perceivable difference.

I used to use DVD-RW + but the picture playback on my standalone DVD player was jumpy at times so I did more research and even tho Sony said my DVD player would handle + and - it didnt as I found out that it only handled _ properly its just that I got away with using + so just make sure that whatever you get that your DVD player will handle the correct format/type.

I always use DVD+Rs because my DVD burner will automatically close them as DVD-ROM (c.f. bitsetting).

i always use -r, i had one batch of plusses several years ago, and had a few problems on various dvd players, since then thousands of -r without issue (though i treat each disk as 4.2b, as i don't trust the edge of cheap disks)

Maybe you bought El Cheapo ones? I've used 1000's of +Rs, at £10 per 50, and never had a problem.

I use both +/- whichever is cheapest/on offer, although I do stick to branded ones like TDK, Verbatim etc..

    Always! ;)
probably just a bad batch, but once bitten and all that
    £10 for 50 is a little steep for me, printable G05s for £8.50 - £9
