Hiya everyone. Well, today I got the IB50 arrive, oh joy. So, it's the first one i've ever done & of course it asks for essays to be written. Anything I should put in? Obviously I don't want a medical. I'm on IB & IS & DLA. Thanks!

Write what your condition is like on a 'usual' day - dont under- or over-estimate. Tell them how it affects you on a usual day and what limitations it puts upoin your life. Mention any medications you take. Send in any documentation you have - my husband sends in copies of hospital appointments etc.
However, there is no guarantee you won't be called for a medical.
Good luck!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Sorry, why not?0 -
Not much chance in not being called for a medical now, if you put extensive reports from all of your medical team then it's possible that you might not need one or if you fall into the following criteria you would be exemptYou do not need to have this assessment if you are :
- registered blind
- assessed as 80 per cent disabled for severe disablement allowance, industrial injuries disablement benefit or war disablement pension
- or getting DLA higher rate care component
- or terminally ill
- or you have a prescribed chronic condition such as a severe muscle wasting disease or have been affected by a severe stroke.
You should put in the truth, that way noone can say you have lied, prove you lied etc.One day I might be more organised...........

I can't speak for the OP, but for many people with mental health problems, the thought of a medical is so stressful it makes them worse.
My husband could hardly speak before he had his, he was feeling so sick and disorientated and his stomach was churning.
I'm not by the way saying this is any reason not to have a medical. I'm just saying how anxiety-ridden it can make some people feel.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I don't think anyone would to go for a medical examination but if you claim the benefits you have to comply with the rules. It won't be easy for some people but if you're genuinely disabled with unbiased medical evidence it should be fine." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

No-one wants to go for a medical, but it's the rules and as others have said the only way not to is to be in one of the exempt groups.
As for the IB50, put everything down you can think of which means you can't work, no matter how small.0 -
My OH suffers severe depression and a whole host of mental health issues. They got called for a medical, which made them worse at the thought of having to go out!
After all the faffing about, cancelling appointments etc we got there, they couldnt find OH's file and the whole medical lasted less than 10 minutes.
We came out feeling rather pi55ed off with the whole thing...0
