Lots of places don't except debit cards, especially online. But most except Amex, but that doesn't matter as I wont be able to get the Amex.0

When i was a student i applied for the student barclaycard and was approved, while having a settled default.
Only got a £600 limit but was good for building my credit
I hate Barclaycard.:hello:0 -
I am a student, and the credit card I am using it Capital ONE.
We're very unlikely to get a cash-back card at this time in our lives.

What sort of places don't accept Debit Cards, but do accept Amex ?
I have never seen this, infact I've never heard of places taking Credit Cards but not Debit Cards.0 -

I also had a Barclaycard when I was a student. The limit was £250. But this was 17 years ago now.0 -

Foreign sites etc. Mastercard and Visa and Amex are pretty global, Maestro not so much.
Believe me I have run into ALOT of places. Sometime I can use paypal, but not always.
I guess I will have to give up on the idea of a cash-back card.0 -
You may not have to give up on the idea of a Credit card altogether though. Like I said, the easiest way is to get the student credit card your bank will offer (unless it's HSBC in which case they may reject you anyway.. idiots). Then you know you will always be able to buy online without hassle.

Yes I take your point about Maestro, but you can get Debit Cards that are VISA, they are accepted just about everywhere.0 -
@NickX - true I hadn't though about that.
OK so I went back to MoneySupermaket, they also recommend the Smile.co.uk Classic card.

They don't seem to set a minimum income.
It only has 0.5% cashback - but thats better than nothing right?
Do I stand a chance getting it?
Thanks!0
