We are doing the same thing at the moment.

We have bought a '74 VW Campervan and leave next week for a 4 week trip.

I joined https://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk for the year (around £30) and they have been most useful. I have saved money on insurance with them and they have fantastic guides and a travel help service and helpful forums too.

They will also be able to supply you with a Camping Card International for £4.50, which gives you discounts at many campsites in Europe.

We've booked our ferry through Norfolkline - Dover to Dunkirque, for £58 return! https://travel.norfolkline.com/default.asp

    Happy camping!

    Randy - I'm so envious!

We've got a '74 VW Campervan (Bungle) and have just returned from three weeks touring in Scotland. I'm so fed up at being back home.

I wish I was going off for four weeks! (did go to Vanfest last weekend though - VW camper heaven)

    Have fun....

I know this is not what you are looking to do and it is not really moneysaving, but can you hire campervans or is it very expensive?
  • You can hire VW campervans in this country but not to take abroad (as far as I know. If you are looking to hire out an old VW let me know and I will find you some links - there are several companies. I researched it a coupld of years ago - I was thinking about setting up a business doing the same - and at that thime it was about £400 per week (not moneysaving, but GREAT experience!) but I am sure that prices have gone up since then.

Let me know if you want links - I think there are at least five companies and will have to engage the brain cells to think of what they were all called.
