was wondering if someone could help me find out the cheapest way of getting from leamington to Penzanze on 20th Aug, any helps much appreciated.

The cheapest rail travel long distance is nearly always an advance purchase single booked soon after the fares are released. Some people will tell you that that's 'exactly 12 weeks' ahead of travel - it ain't so. It's often (usually even) a lot lot less.
For example First Great Western, who operate most of one of the two routes you could use (via Reading or via Birmingham), have released up to 9 July. Cross Country (the other operator) - only until late June.
So just check what's available from time to time. Don't be panicked into buying a full fare ticket 'in case they sell out' - they won't. If you are stuck with that buy it on the day.
The cheapest possible fare is £15. If you can get it in the £20s it's good.0
