Confused Two Electricity Suppliers?

Heres an oddball for you.... bear with me - its a long one.;)

We have two seperate electricity supplies, and hence meters, as we have a smallholding. One for the house and one for the barn.
The barn one is a prepaid key meter and the house one a normal credit meter that we have a monthly direct debit for.

OK so far?

We changed suppliers on the house meter 2 months ago from Scottish Power to British gas becuase they were the cheapest for that set up. It all went through all right, BG took the initial meter reading from me via the phone on the day that it switched to them. All was OK....

The Barn was on an E.on prepay Key meter. We then decided that the barn was using too little electric to warrent paying a standing charge for so opted for Ebico's flat rate, no standing charge prepaid key thinghy as it suited and was the cheapest for that set up.

Now comes the interesting bit.....

Ebico instead of taking over the barn supply as requested (even gave them the actual supply number), they have actually taken over the house supply, leaving the barn still with E.on (formerly powergen). The meter readings I gave them were for the barn on the day it transfered over a couple of weeks ago.

So this means Ebico have officially taken over the house supply (obviously without my consent or knowledge), they haven't got the house meter readings. British gas haven't taken any meter readings since the day they took over a couple of months go.

This means, I assume that British gas can't charge me anything as they can't prove how much electric that they have supplied me and Ebico can't charge me anything as I did not request them to take over that supply. Becuase BG can't prove how much I owe them, and Ebico have no right to charge me anything ?? Or am I going mad.

Any legal beagles out there? Or any ideas.

Sorry it was a long post but the background is all part of it.

  • You need an Erroneous Transfer back to BGAS. Explain to EBICO they have taken the wrong supply and give them the correct MPAN.

If you have a DD with BGAS they will still collect as it is automated, but at present they do not supply.

The erroneous transfer (transfer in error) when completed, will make your account appear as if EBICO never supplied. They will not bill you, everything regarding the account will be backdated to the date they got the supply and erased.

That's the first answer and the fact.

However, if you leave things as they are, then EBICO are your supplier (even though in error) so you would owe them. Sorry, there is no free lunch with this one!
  • Damn!! :D
