Hi,
I currently have a simple spreadsheet which contains all my expenditure. I have columns such as Date, Type, Shop, Purchase, Amount etc.
Under type it has, bills, lunch, misc etc. I want to setup a side column which contains total spending for each type category. Any idea how can I do this?
Thanks
M

If you sum up each column or row with this formula =SUM
In otherwords if you had amounts from A1 to Z1 you could use =SUM(A1:Z1) this will include all of the A row.
If using columns use =SUM(B1:B40) for example, you can start and finish with any row or cloumn i.e A, B, C or whatever.0 -
Assuming you are storing the category type in one column, you can do this automatically in a separate area using a PivotTable (from the Data Menu), or on the actual data by sorting the list (by category) and add Subtotals to it, again from the Data menu (or tools in older versions).0

If you don't mind spending some time reading the Help file and setting up your spreadsheet, I think you'll find the DSUM function will do what you want."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0
