Reclaiming a late fee on a credit card

Hello we are only talking £12.00 here, but I made a credit card payment 24hours late and the Halifax charged me £12.00 and the balance was only £30.00!!! What is the quickest way to try and reclaim this and am I within my rights to do so?
How petty for them to do this, I have always made my payment on time in the past!
But then the following month I did the same again but this time it was 5 days - this was my mistake!!! So not so bothered about this one. well am really
