Lloyds TSB Duo cards - I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

Victor Meldrew - eat your heart out!

Like a previous poster, I got lumbered with these Duo cards, whereas the previous Classic Reserve card I had worked fine, with all services.

When buying goods and services over the Internet, many sellers now require your card to be enabled with SecureCode or ClickSafe. I cannot get either of these cards registered for either of these services. Lloyds website reports, "Your card is not currently eligible...". In the same paragraph it goes on to say, "All Lloyds TSB credit cards will be made eligible during 2005". 2005? This is 2008 for God's sake...! Incidentally, I have a good credit rating, and am not up-to-the-hilt in debt in case you were wondering!

I get the runaround when I phone Card Services at Brighton, and my local Lloyds branch are equally as useless. Wrote a letter to Card Services clearly outlining the problem, and demanding an answer. No response whatsoever. After a few weeks I boiled over and sent a Recorded Delivery missive to the Chairman of Lloyds TSB (Eric Daniels) in Gresham Street London, telling him that since I'd been a customer of Lloyds for 46 years, I expected better service from his organisation. He could not even be bothered to reply to me or even acknowledge my letter! After about a week or so I did, however, get a very belated response from Card Services saying they were "looking into it", and would reply within 28 days. Why does it take 28 days to look into it? Well, 29 days passed by before I got another letter from them. And guess what, they've put me off for another 28 days. WORDS FAIL ME!

Anyone else had similar problems? What do I do to get these goons to enable my card(s) for this important service?

I do not think it should affect you. If you shop at a website that uses SecureCode then they will ask you to register your card when you make a purchase if the option is available, if not then the payment will go through without the need to use SecureCode.

"If you shop at a website that uses SecureCode then they will ask you to register your card when you make a purchase...". Yes, three different websites in the U.S. wanted me to register, but I couldn't, so my purchase failed! A U.K. site wanted me to register for ClickSafe before I could buy something - that failed as well, so I had to go and physically buy the goods over the counter in town. That's the whole point...

Every time I have used SecureCode or Verified by Visa I have been given the option to register now or later. However, I have only been presented with the SecureCode or Verified by Visa screen when my card has been enabled for that service (i.e. I have used the same retailer with two different cards and only been asked to register for one of them).

You and I have obviously had two utterly and completely different experiences with credit cards, when buying over the Internet. For purchases where I present my card in person, there has never been a problem. It is only since I was told I had to have these new Duo cards that problems have arisen when I try to buy over the Internet, particularly from America. Just for information, I am being directed this site for SecureCode and ClickSafe registration:-

    https://www.clicksafe.lloydstsb.com/lloyds/registration/new_registration_start.jsp

I would be very interested to know if other users of these Duo cards have managed to get SecureCode and/or ClickSafe enabled satisfactorily. It appears as though Lloyds TSB Card Services don't understand how their own systems work since they cannot (will not?) give me any answer to this problem...

Maybe it is just a Lloyds bank problem (as I am not a customer)?

Having used Halifax, Nationwide, Tesco and Virgin cards of both Visa and Mastercard types I have never experienced problems with registration, which I have done just as part of a normal online transaction.

Well I guess it must be just my account that's causing the problem, as no one else has chipped in yet...

Since loyalty generally isn't rewarded in any walk of life these days, I guess it's time I changed banks. However, it's a job to know which bank's least likely to bu**er things up if I transfer to 'em...

As far as I'm aware, it would have been the same IP Address when I was trying to purchase, as when I tried to register on the Lloyds TSB website. A majority of ISPs issue dynamic IP Addresses, (which is what I have), so your assigned IP Address can change from time to time. However, I doubt it would have changed during the periods when I was trying to purchase goods and then immediately register.

However, I don't believe it's a problem with the on-line company selling the goods - all they're asking me to do is go to the Lloyds website and get my card(s) registered for SecureCode or ClickSafe. My previous Classic Reserve card had these enabled ok. Lloyds bank can't or won't enable either or both of these new Duo cards for reasons they so far refuse to divulge to me. I see this problem as being entirely down to Lloyds Bank, not the vendor...

I am having exactly the same problem, since im a new lloyds tsb customer im yet to see if I encounter any problems. Thankfully I still have my Bank of Scotland account to fall back on if need be, and the bos verified by visa was no trouble at all, yet lloyds tsb says debit cards dont apply, wonder what will happen if the proposed takeover goes ahead?

By the way this is my very first post since im new on here, so apologies if ive done or said anything wrong.

You can only make 3 attempts to purchase without registering before you HAVE to register.

If it doesn't work, then it's the banks systems that have stopped it from working, not the website.

If you continue to have problems, ring your bank, tell them the problem, and ask them if they'll talk you through it over the phone. They'll talk you through step by step and you'll get your purchase and SecureCode/Verified by Visa set up at the end of it.

    Hope this helps
