August holiday - child free and not too far

Hello,
I hope you can help.
I am looking to book a short holiday (7-10 days) for August 2008 that will provide a bit of peace & quiet & relaxation in the sun.
It is just for my wife and I and we would like a resort / hotel that caters for adults only ... in other words no children.
Also, my wife does not like flying and so we want a short-haul European flight.
We do not normally take a 'package' holiday and don't know where to begin. Thanks if you can help.

    'Up' what?

    Patience is a virtue;)

I'm sure when someone can assist they will reply accordingly.
  • Will you be hiring a Car?
Puglia in Southern Italy is very nice, if you go to google maps, on the business section and type in holidays.. Puglia you will find some nice places to stay and fly with Ryanair 2.5 hrs flying time. What sort of temperature would you be looking for, August can be very hot in southern Italy. :)
Good luck in finding your perfect holiday.

    thanks

don't necessarily need a car for 7 days...maybe for 10 will want to get out and about

    don't mind the heat

southern Italy could be a good place to look

would be good to be near the coast as we like fresh seafood

we definitely want a place for quiet adults without children!

    thanks...will think about destination...but

the main consideration I would like some advice on is the money saving (not getting ripped off 'cause it's peak season) aspect

is it better to book online?...through an agent?...flight and accomodation separately? etc

any tips / guidance greatly appreciated.

we normally take cottage holidays in the uk so don't know the ropes for an overseas trip to a resort etc

Have you thought about a small gite in France? you could catch the ferry or do the eurotunnel. We have booked a small holiday gite in Brittany for £300 a week in the South in August. I used this company: www.holidaylettings.co.uk to book our holiday but also found www.ownersdirect.co.uk came up with some good bargains.
  • thomson GOLD holidays do not accept bookings for under 16s in the majority of the GOLD hotels. We found the los Gigantes in tenerife and Ses Estaques in Ibiza IMO 2 of the best .Lovely hotels, good food ,peace and quiet and best of all NO KIDS in hotels. Both these hotels are in quiet resorts and we just hired a car to see other parts of the countries.
    hope this helps
