Are Nectar Points as good as Tesco Advantage Card Points?

Options
I collect Tesco Advantage card Points andthey are excellent with the Deals you can swap them for but I have noticed that their seems to be an increasing amount of checkout assistants asking if I collect Nectar Points. Upto now I dont but have now got an application form. Please can anyone tell me if their are any offers like the Tesco Deals with Nectar Points??
Thanks
:o)

is the simple answer they offer very poor value and are only worth collecting if you are shopping there anyway

I believe that Martin did a valuation of these freebies and Nectar came out very low indeed

Years ago nectar points were quite good, if you redeemed them at Topshop
they were worth double the value. I got my daughters first mobile phones from there at equivalent to half price.
Then they stopped the Topshop offer and made a big deal about now giving you 2 points per pound, but 500 points became £2.50 which was exactly the same.
I emailed to ask about it and never did get a sensible answer.
I still hand over my card if I pop in to Sainsburys and I get nectar points from TNS surveys and then use the points in Argos.
Tesco is definitely tops for me, with Boots coming in a close second.

    Any Nectar experts here?

I don't shop at Sainsbury's much but was in one on Saturday and being a bit skint asked how much was on my Nectar card with a view to having it knocked off my bill. I was told that I could only do this in my 'home store', i.e. the one where the card was registered. Is this really the case? Bit of a prob as I haven't a clue which one this is! Is there an easy way of finding out?

give them a ring on the helpline number (should be on the back on the card) and they will tell you. And yes they were correct that you can only get your vouchers or money knocked off at your home store. Hope that helps :)

If you're near an Argos, try asking them. You can use your points there, so I assume you can also get your balance. A bit cheeky, but it might work.

If you log on to the nectar website and register your card, you can find out your home store and points in your account details.

nectar often send vouchers that give you say e.g. 2000 extra points at sainsburys for example. I find these are good and have built up quite a lot of points using this type of offer. In general though, I find Tesco clubcard is better day to day.

You can also change your home store through customer services as well if that helps. I find that Nectar don't offer very much at all and they keep on changing who is in with them and who isn't! I just carry my card around and collect points when I can, I do that with all the points cards then I don't feel like i'm missing out on anything!
  • ive nto got a nectar card because there isn't a sainsbury's in inverness plus i don't have kids so no adams clothes and don't drive so no bp fuel so it's not much use, however debenham's is part of nectar and i do buy the occassional thing in there and they keep asking me if i have a nectar card but i've heard that the points aren't worth much and you have to spend an arm and a leg to get them.

i also don't have a tesco clubcard as i don't go in there often as the *better* tesco's in inverness aren't very accessible by car, there is one i can walk to from the bus but they went and branded it *metro* so now it's often excluded from the good BOGOFs and offers.

however when it comes to boots advantage card it is a bit of a different story, i am a trifle obsessed with collecting these points but i find they mount up quickly as they dish out four points per pound and often do triple poitns extravaganzas and special offers online for more points. i also get sent out double poitns vouchers and special promotional points vouchers in the mail now *got my september/october bundle of ocuposn the other day, yippee* so it's quite easy to get to a decent poinage total with them.

i also have a whsmith's card but i can't read anymore so i don't use it as much as i used to sigh, they occassionally send out coupons but not as often as botos, boots only used to send coupons out every quarter but this year it seems to have gone up to every couple of months, not that i am complaining if they are decent but last time's lot were useless!

i'm sure i have other custoemr club/loyalty scheme cards knocking about - but i don't tend to use them now. boots and whsmith's are the main two i use tbh.
my advantage_card is like gold dush
