Sluggish PC performance

Hi, I'm having real problems with my pc at the moment booting it up & generally working on it. I have a dual core processor with 1gb of ram. It seems to take an age booting up and when I'm collecting email I can't tab between any other programs running. I've done the usual stuff like checking MSconfig for the start up programs & have run a virus check but none of these have solved the sluggishness. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue and found that automatic updates were playing up so I turned off auto updates and also installed a fix for svchost.exe that was the main culprit.

You might have something hogging the CPU, hit ctrl-alt-del and select task mananger, goto processes and list by CPU usage. if it comes up at the top as zero hit the cpu again to list it the other way.
Alternatively goto start, run and type in perfmon.0 -
Vista or XP ? How long have you had it?
Make sure you've got nothign running in the background like virus scans or disk indexing.It's my problem, it's my problem
