Plumbing in washing machine waste

Hi,

I wanted to replace the leaky washing machine waste trap with one of these:

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/12794/Plumbing/Wastes-and-Traps/Sink-Washing-Machine-Trap-40mm

Do I need a new waste hose to fit it though, seems to be some sort of screw fit connector but the current waste hose doesnt appear to have any way of screwing onto this?

Cheers

Andy

No you don't, if you have a "pointy" (for lack of a better word) rubber end on your waste hose, then the "pointy" bit in the picture should fit inside your hose. They are pretty universal, so shouldn't be a problem.

Do you know why the old one is leaking?

I think because currently there isnt enough height in the washing machine trap at the moment compared to the drain outlet to prevent some water spilling over.

The end of the hose appears to have 2 "wings" that curl away from the edge not sure how it will secure and seal onto the adapter really.

  • We have one of these under the sink and the outlet from the dishwasher is attached to it. All I did was push the outlet hose onto the spigot (the technical name for the pointy bit) after cutting off the end of the spigot (it is normally sealed to prevent leakage when you buy it.

If your hose won't push onto the spigot, you may have to get a new hose with a rubbery end or think if something else.

Right, its just a plastic hose no rubbery bit, i dont see how it could ever seal if i pushed it onto the end. Maybe i need a new hose then.

It will seal, but if for some reason yours wont wrap some PTFE tape on until you get a new hose
My opinions are purely my own act on them at your own risk

Your right it worked, the end of the hose was rubber, it looked like plastic when I fisrt looked at it. The nossle attachment seems to have 3 sizes of attachement the hose fitted over the first one then it widens for a larger hose i guess and finaly a screw fit one after that. It leaked slightly first time but PTFE tape did the job, much neater than before and a bit more room in the sink cupboard now.

    Cheers
